昭和の初めに使われていた回転扉
(ライジングサン石油株式会社本社ビル)
ここに保存されている回転扉は、かつてこの地にあり、 後に昭和シェル石油となるライジングサン石 油の本社ビル玄関に使われていたものです。
この本社ビルは関東大震災後の 1929 年 (昭和4年)に建築家 のA・レーモンドとB・フォイエルシュタインの協働による設計で 建てられたもので、 当時の日本における最もモダンなオフィスビル の一つでした。
1990年にこのビルは解体されましたが、回転扉は 日本最初期のものでありデザインも斬新だったため、 横浜市により 保管されていました。
その後、2001年にエクステ山下公園の竣工に合わせ当初の場所に戻りました。なお建物正面には元のビルの造 形的特徴であった溝彫りのある二本の円柱も再現されています。
ライジングサン石油
ライジングサン石油は、 横浜 で貿易業を営んでいた英国のサミュエル商会の石油部門が切り 離されて1900年 (明治33年) に設立、1911年に山下町58番地に本社を構えました。
関東大震災でその本社は倒壊しまし たが、1929年に再建。 太平洋 戦争中は一時休業となりましたが、1948年にシェル石油と商 号を変更し復帰。
1955年に横 浜を離れ東京に本社移転。1985年に昭和石油と合併し昭和シェ ル石油となりました。

Revolving door used in the early Showa era
The revolving door preserved here used to be the entrance to the head office building of Rising Sun Oil, which later became Showa Shell Sekiyu.The building was designed by architects A. Raymond and B. Feuerstein in 1929 after the Great Kanto Earthquake, and was one of the most modern office buildings in Japan at the time.It was one of the most modern office buildings in Japan at the time. The building was demolished in 1990, but the revolving doors were kept by the city of Yokohama because they were the first of their kind in Japan and the design was innovative.In 2001, the building was returned to its original location to coincide with the completion of Exte Yamashita Park. The two columns with grooves on the front of the building, which were a structural feature of the original building, have also been reproduced.
Rising Sun Oil
Rising Sun Oil was established in 1900 as a spin-off of the oil division of the British Samuel Trading Company, which was engaged in trading in Yokohama, and established its headquarters at 58 Yamashita-cho in 1911.The headquarters was destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake, but was rebuilt in 1929.The company was temporarily closed during the Pacific War, but changed its name to Shell Sekiyu in 1948 and returned to business.In 1955, the company left Yokohama and moved its headquarters to Tokyo.In 1985, the company merged with Showa Sekiyu to form Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K.
